Hi everyone,

One of the Middle Schools I work at is a Magnet school, meaning that a good portion of the students are transfers from other parts of the city.  This makes it interesting to do family engagement at the school, most parents never step on campus, they drive up pick up their students and leave.  Having parents all over the city, limits the interaction with the families and makes for a challenge to get them to any family engagement activities.

Any ideas on approaches would be greatly appreciated.

We have targeted the families who's students are in the afterschool programs and involve students in the planning of family activities. I'm also at a magnet school. We start smaller and have a parent coordinator and/or a family service support provider on staff where families can be targeted to attend events. We use a school messenger blast communication system to send text, email and voicemail messages....

Hope this helps.
