Position (or Title) at Community School
Community School Director
Description of Position
As a Comunity School Director, I facilitate partnerships between PS 19 Q Marino Jeantet, non-profits, business and government to integrate vital services into my assigned school's needs, improve student achievement, and meet the health, safety and social service needs of students and communities. NYCCLS is designed to benefit entire neighborhoods by transforming public schools into community “hubs” in an effort to meet the needs of students, families, and community members. A Community School Director (CSD), the linchpin of the NYCCLS model, manages the ongoing development and coordination of services in a CLS. All school community stakeholders are engaged in needs assessment process focused on identifying the roadblocks or barriers students face that weaken motivation for and/or readiness and ability to learn, which drives the scope of programs and services in the CLS. This year, as a CSD, I was given the opportunity to present two workshops for the National Community Schools Conference and NYCCLS Spring Conference. Also, I have was a participant in the Community Schools Lobby Day in Albany. Where I had the opportunity, as well as other select colleagues and representatives of Community Schools to present community schools funding needs or "asks" to legislative officials. Lastly, I write grants as a Community School Director. There is no such thing as "no", we must know where to look and how to ask. Grants are a great way of supporting sustainability.
